    Yaoundé : le journaliste Polycarpe Essomba de RFI a été violenté, interpellé et détenu durant deux heures dans un commissariat, le 22 septembre 2020. Il couvrait les marches de protestation lancées par le MRC, parti politique d’opposition. Il a été par la suite libéré.

    In Mautu (South-West region of Cameroon) on January 10, in an alleged hunt for separatists, soldiers killed some civilians, including an elderly woman and her grandchild, alongside seven others. Another grandmother and her grandson are still battling for life, after sustaining gun injuries.     On January, 23 2021,Cameroon soldiers responded to gunshots in Meta-quarters in Bamenda, capital of Cameroon's Northwest region. The soldiers arrived the neighbourhood when the separatists who shot in the air had left. Instead, the soldiers killed two unarmed form five students and two other teenagers spotted at an uncompleted building said to be a smoking joint.     On February 23, suspected separatist fighters in Cameroon's English speaking regions released a video, showing two women completely stripped naked, and tortured by the fighters. In the video, the women were accused of having love affairs with government soldiers, referred to by separatists as "ekelebes". The women were tortured with canes, and one of the suspected separatists could be heard, asking for pepper to rub on the women's private parts, as punishment for having affairs with soldiers.     Bangangté : Des inconnus tuent un technicien radio à coups de poignard. Eric Kouagat, technicien de la radio Nganté Fm à Bangangté (région Ouest du Cameroun), a été assassiné à coups de poignard par des inconnus alors qu’il rentrait du travail dans la nuit du 30 janvier 2022.

    Bangangté : Des inconnus tuent un technicien radio à coups de poignard . Eric Kouagat, technicien de la radio Nganté Fm à Bangangté (région Ouest du Cameroun), a été assassiné à coups de poignard par des inconnus dans la nuit du 30 janvier 2022. Il rentrait du travail. Une enquête est cours pour déterminer les auteurs du crime, afin qu’ils répondent de leurs actes devant la justice.

    Garoua : Un garçon torturé à mort chez le lamido de Garoua Ali Youssouf, 18 ans, est mort le 1er février 2022 des suites de châtiments corporels. Son décès est survenu dans le lamidat de Garoua ( Nord du Cameroun) où il a été bastonné par des militaires en service dans cette chefferie. Suite à l’ouverture d’une enquête, le lamido Ibrahim El Rachidine a été inculpé, suspecté d’avoir ordonné contre le défunt des actes de torture et des traitements inhumains ou dégradants.

    Akwaya: Au moins 30 personnes, dont des femmes et des enfants, ont été tuées au cours d’un conflit interethnique survenu les 25 et 26 juin 2022 dans le village Bakinjaw, commune d'Akwaya, dans la région du Sud-Ouest.

    Kumbo On October 22, Government soldiers stationed in Bui division invaded the Village of Sop in Jakiri Subdivision in search of separatist fighters. After failing to the get or capture any separatist fighter, the soldiers resorted to burning houses and destroying of properties of locals in the village. The act was carried out at a time the locals just harvested their food crops and stored. The burning of the food and shelter of locals in Sop will expose locals to hunger at a time they are already struggling as a result of the war. By Andrew Nsoseka, JADE Cameroun:

    Lebialem On October 22, 2022, some six young men were killed and buried by locals in Esso-attah village in Lebialem Division of Cameroon's Southwest region. They were accused by locals of harassment and also of allegedly aiding separatist fighters who captured and killed three tribal chiefs last year, November 2021. With government presence dwindled by separatist activities and presence, law and order is absent, giving room for jungle justice to thrive in remote areas of the division, like the rest of Cameroon's Anglophone engulfed in years of armed conflict.:

    Kumbo On November 29, Cameroon government forces, (BIR elements) carried out a mission in Banten, a village in Bui Division during which two three civilians died. Two youngsters said to be siblings were arrested and then later shot and killed. They were executed through headshots. An elderly man, a certain Mr Kongyuy reportedly died of shock after the incident. The Catholic Church in Banten was also broken into and ransacked. Shops were also allegedly looted by the soldiers. The soldiers were said to have been on a mission to find separatist fighters.:

    Bamenda A video shot on November 24, 2022 has surfaced online. It contains images of imposters of separatist fighters, caught by a separatist unit in the Northwest regional capital, Bamenda. The separatist group identified itself as the ‘Bamenda Brigade’ of Ambazonia fighters. The supposed imposters referred to by fighters as ‘thieves’ are shown tortured, with some of their fingers cut off, and they were forced to chew the cut-off fingers. They were accused of impersonating the fighters, terrorising people and collecting ransoms after kidnappings. In the video, the tortured men and maimed men confessed to have collected FCFA 2.7 million from their victims.:

    Kumbo A civilian and health worker at the Banso Baptist Hospital in Kumbo, Tenven Patrick was on Thursday, December 15, 2022, executed by separatist fighters. The fighters labelled him a “Blackleg”, and after he was executed, his body was deposited at Shangwai – Kumbo, in Bui Division. Tenven Patrick was also a community mobiliser.:

    Kumbo On Saturday, December 17, a military raid was carried out in Yer, a village in Bui Division, of Cameroon’s Northwest region. During the raid which was presumably to get separatist targets, government soldiers set ablaze at least 10 houses. Apart from leaving several persons homeless, a lot of property and food were also burnt down. During the raid, three civilians were also killed in the process.:

    Oku On December 24, 2022, Cameroon soldiers carried out a mission that was supposed to be a raid against separatist fighters operating in Nkii, a village in Oku, Bui Division, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. During the operation, soldiers burnt down 54 houses, and 15 bikes. Witnesses said six civilians were killed, alongside two separatist fighters. Some civilians were also injured during the operation.:

    Jakiri On January 1, 2023, a separatist group known as Bui Unity Warriors operating in Bui Division of Cameroon’s Northwest region, executed a civilian, Tiydze Cedrick, who was serving as the Director of the National Centre for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Training, Jakiri. He was pulled out of a bar and shot at close range by the separatist fighters who were allegedly on a mission to attack a military post in Jakiri.:

    Akwaya On January 3, 2023, a Non-state Armed Group, said to be separatists attacked Bache a community in Akwaya Subdivision in Cameroon’s Southwest Region and killed three persons. Several others were also wounded, while others were maimed. The group also burnt a house of a former state official alongside commercial motorcycles. The attack forced the displacement of hundreds of persons.:

    Bambui On January 7, 2023, government soldiers operating in Mezam Division of Cameroon’s Northwest region invaded a funeral ceremony in Bambui, and in the process, shot and killed a young man, identified as Ngubeu. The victim was performing as a masquerade at the funeral ceremony, before soldiers invaded the place. Several other mourners were also injured and others sustained wounds running away from the chaos created by the soldiers.:

    Bamenda A commercial driver, popularly known as “Small Head” was killed in his home in Bambui, on the night of January 10, 2023, by a non-estate armed group, suspected to be separatist fighters. Witnesses said the late driver’s son was taken by the armed group that tortured him and forced him to take them to his father. In front of their home, the armed men called out the man, who was immediately shot severally as he stepped out of his house to meet the armed men who called him out. He died of the gunshots.:

    Bamenda On Thursday, January 12, 2023, a group of herdsmen from a border community between Nigeria and Cameroon invaded Munkep a community in Esu, a village in Menchum Division of Cameroon’s Northwest region. The herdsmen killed at least six persons. The local leader of the community, Chief Mathias Chi Eweh and his son were among the victims. The group also burnt houses and destroyed crops during the attack. The motive behind the attack is not clear.:

    Bamenda On Thursday January 12, 2023, separatist fighters attacked a military Checkpoint at Mile 5, Nkwen in Cameroon’s Northwest regional capital, Bamenda. After the battle with separatists, government soldiers embarked on a blanket punishment retaliatory attack, targeting the general population. The soldiers who often accuse the locals of supporting and shielding the fighters invaded communities and set several commercial bikes mostly belonging to the youths on fire. Many youths depend on these bikes to make a living. Video footage of the aftermath showed youths carrying away burnt remains of their bikes. Commercial bike riding employs thousands of youths in such communities.:

    Kumbo A Cameroon military operation in the villages of Mensai and Mbah in Bui Division of Cameroon's Northwest region on January 15, 2023 ended with heavy destruction of property. During the mission, soldiers seized and burnt several commercial bikes used as a means of transport in the villages. The soldiers also burnt homes, and reportedly took some civilians hostage, forcing them to identify targets in the soldiers’ hunt for separatists.:

    Yaoundé : L’animateur Martinez Zogo, chef de chaîne de la radio Amplitude FM, émettant à Yaoundé, et présentateur de l’émission « Embouteillages », a été assassiné. Son corps en état de décomposition et portant des traces de sévices graves a été retrouvé ce 22 janvier 2023 dans la localité d’Ebogo 3 dans la l’arrondissement de Soa. Il avait été enlevé dans la nuit du 17 janvier par des hommes non identifiés, alors qu’il regagnait son domicile.

    Bamenda On January 27, 2023, government soldiers stormed a funeral ceremony in the outskirts of Bamenda, at a neighbourhood called Old Moghamo. The soldiers pulled away two boys who were participating in a wake. The two boys were summarily executed and their bodies abandoned a few blocks away from the mourning ground where they were taken from.:

    Ndop On February 01, 2023, Cameroon soldiers in the Northwest region carried out an operation that was reportedly meant to target separatist fighters led by self-styled ‘FM No Pity’ in Ndop. During the the mission, the soldiers reportedly failed to get the separatist leader and his fighters. Soldiers instead turned on the local population in Bamunka village,, killing two civilians and burning several houses and properties in the process.:

    Jakiri On February 9, 2023, government soldiers carried out an operation in Vekovi, a village in Jakiri Subdivision of Cameroon’s Northwest region. During the operation, soldiers who reportedly failed to get the targeted separatist fighters instead killed a civilian who was also a traditional leader, Shey Laalu. He was tortured and killed on accusations that his children joined separatist fighters. Another man said to have been a former separatist fighter was also brutally executed in the village.:

    Bamenda On Thursday, February 9, 2023, government soldiers operating in Mile 2 Bamenda killed two civilians. Witnesses said the soldiers were reportedly on a mission to capture separatist fighters who had entered the community to abduct a teacher. However, the separatists according to locals had left before the soldiers arrived, and when the two civilians, a University of Bamenda student and his friend on a bike appeared, the soldiers without verification opened fire on them, killing the two on spot.:

    Yaounde On February 14, 2023, the defence team of Anglophone Crisis detainees revealed that an Anglophone detainee, Yenkong Sulemanu was severely tortured at SED where he is remanded in custody. The lawyers narrate that Sulemanu was tortured with a rusted machete on the soles of his feet, for about an hour, because he blocked a punch from a Gendarmerie officer who aimed for Abdul Karim, an activist Sulemanu and other persons were caught alongside, because he, Abdul Karim had criticised a military officer for constantly harassing and torturing citizens in Anglophone regions of Cameroon. Pictures of the torture show Sulemanu’s battered feet. He was later detained in a solitary cell and has not been heard from or seen.:

    Ekona On Monday, February 13, Cameroon government soldiers carried out a raid in the village of Ekona, in Muyuka Subdivision of Cameroon’s Southwest region. During the Monday raid, the soldiers arrested and killed a young man named Felix. The victim who had just had his bath after returning from his farm was ordered to dress up and mount the military truck like others, but on the way to the truck, he was shot in the head and killed. During the raid like in the two previous ones, the military rounded up several youths and transported them to the regional capital, Buea where they are detained without charges.:

    Jakiri At about 4 AM on Saturday, February 18, Cameroon government soldiers raided the village of Mensai in Jakiri Subdivision, in search of a separatist commander of a group named “Black Warriors” operating under the “Bui Unity Warriors’” separatist coalition. After failing to capture the separatist commander, soldiers resorted to burning houses and commercial bikes belonging to locals. They also arrested villagers on claims that they are aiding and hiding separatist fighters in their communities.:

    Yaoundé : Le corps sans vie de Marie Florence Kwadith, 57 ans, a été retrouvé ce 20 février 2023, aux premières heures de la matinée sur l’autoroute Yaoundé Nsimalen. La découverte macabre a été faite par les éléments de la brigade de gendarmerie de Bikok. Selon des informations, elle a été agressée avant d’être poignardée à mort par les inconnus.     Yaoundé : Le prêtre catholique orthodoxe, Jean Jacques Ola Bébé, a été retrouvé mort le 02 février 2023 dans une banlieue de Yaoundé, la capitale politique du Cameroun. L’investigateur indépendant enquêtait sur des affaires impliquant des personnalités. Il meurt peu de temps après son passage sur une chaîne de radio urbaine diffusant ses émissions sur les réseaux sociaux. Cette disparition dans des conditions troubles intervient deux semaines après la mort tragique du journaliste Martinez Zogo. Hervé Ndombong

    Bafoussam : Porté disparu depuis plusieurs jours, le corps sans vie de Me Jean Fotso, administrateur de greffe à la retraite, a été retrouvé dans la malle arrière de sa voiture à la frontière Batoufam-Bayamgam dans la région de l’Ouest.     Extrême-Nord: Un élément du bataillon d'intervention rapide (BIR) poignarde à mort un enseignant de français à la suite d'une altercation survenue ce 27 février 2023 dans la localité de Moussourtouk, commune de Kaélé.     Yaoundé: Arnaud Ndal en service à la chaîne de télévision Canal 2 international et Guy Alain Suffo, photographe freelance , ont été brutalisés puis conduits au Secrétariat d’État à la défense chargé de la gendarmerie (SED) pour avoir pris des images de l'intérieur du tribunal militaire dans la nuit du 23 au 24 février 2023. Ils ont été relâchés plusieurs heures après. Les deux opérateurs de prise de vue couvraient le passage des suspects interpellés, dont l'homme d'affaires Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga et des responsables des services de sécurité, dans le cadre l'affaire liée à l’assassinat de Martinez Zogo.     Bafoussam Une jeune fille, apparemment âgée de 18 ans, a été retrouvée le lundi 27 février 2023, assassinée dans une maison en ruine au quartier Banengo à Bafoussam. La brigade de gendarmerie de Ndiengdam à Bafoussam a été informée. L'identité de la victime est toujours méconnue. De source médicale, la victime a été violée avant d'être assommée à l'aide d'un parpaing. Son corps a été déposé à la morgue de l’hôpital régional de Bafoussam par les services de la commune d’arrondissement de Bafoussam Ier.:

    Kumbo On March 12, 2023, the day of senatorial elections in Cameroon, government soldiers operating in Kumbo shot two civilians in the village of Tooy, few kilometres from Tobin, Kumbo’s administrative headquarters. One of the civilians, Shey Donatus died immediately, while the other one, another elderly man is still battling for his life in hospital. They were shot when soldiers opened fire randomly in the village to scare off separatist fighters from attacking the area where senatorial elections were going on.:

    Jakiri On March 13, 2023, separatist fighters operating in Jakiri Subdivision planted an explosive that reportedly killed three government soldiers in Ngukov, a community in Sop village, in Jakiri Subdivision. In retaliation backup soldiers who came in from the Subdivisional headquarters, Jakiri went on rampage in the village, burning houses of civilians whom they said did not inform them that explosives were planted on the road. The burning of houses is happening just at the beginning of the rainy reason.:

    Buea Two University of Buea students, Ngule Linus and Mbo Giress were taken away from their student residential homes “mini cite” in Molyko by two plain clothed officers. They were taken away in a white Hilux. They were both studying in the Faculty of Laws and Political Science. On March 16, Ngule Linus was found dead. His body has been deposited at the Buea Mortuary. The other student, Mbo Giress is still detained at SEMIL post in Molyko, Buea.:

    Vekovi On March 2023, government soldiers invaded the village of Vekovi in Jakiri Subdivision. The mission was allegedly aimed at tracking down separatist fighters of the Bui Warriors unit. The soldiers who reportedly came in the early hours of that day missed separatists, who reportedly had just left the community for their own operation. In frustration, the soldiers went on a rampage, burning the houses of locals and also looting others. Locals say dead bodies were found after the soldiers left, and that some of those arrested have not been seen or heard from.:

    Jakiri On the 6th of March 2023, Government soldiers arrested the SDF Jakiri District Chairman, Mr Killian from Nkar, a village in Jakiri Subdivision. He was arrested alongside others who were later released but for four of them, including Mr Killian. On March 28, soldiers drove into the village of Nkar in three trucks and dropped the remains of Mr Killian in Roh-ntong, a quarter in Nkar. Mr Killian’s dead body was riddled with several bullet wounds, showing he was executed. Three others who were arrested and detained by the military are still in military custody.:

    Yaoundé: Une étudiante d’une vingtaine d’années a été retrouvée morte au quartier Mimboman, lieu dit Sapeur, dans l'arrondissement de Yaoundé 4 le 25 mars 2023. Elle a été identifiée le lendemain par sa famille. Selon des témoignages, le corps de la jeune fille présentait des traces de sang dans les oreilles, elle bavait et elle aurait été mutilée.

    Kumbo On March 29, 2023, separatist fighters ambushed a military unit in Mbveh, a quarter in Kumbo in Bui Division of Cameroon’s Northwest region. In retaliation, soldiers went on rampage and in the process killed a civilian, burnt 11 bikes, a car and four houses. About 33 shops were also looted and destroyed by fire. Several civilians were also injured and vehicles destroyed by the soldiers.:

    Buea Lawyers for the family of the deceased University of Buea student, Ngule Linus who died in Police custody, and his friend, Mboh Jeres Akua have revealed that the surviving Mboh Jeres who remains in custody, is being tortured by elements of the SEMIL in Buea. In a statement signed on March 31, the lawyers said Mboh Jeres was tortured continuously for five days, before he was transferred to the Gendarmerie Legion Command Centre in Buea, where he is again held incommunicado. Lawyers said torture is being used to force confessions from the student. They also insinuate that the first student died as a result of similar torture.:

    Loum On April 6, a man, identified as Sylvain Fofou reportedly came home to discover his wife and another man on his matrimonial bed in Loum, in the Littoral region of Cameroon. An argument reportedly erupted and in a scuffle, the cheating wife’s boyfriend was allegedly injured. The injured boyfriend is said to have called his friends in the military, who came in for the husband of the woman. He was arrested and tortured severely, until he passed out and was rushed to the hospital where he died two days after the incident, as a result of the torture. The suspects are on the run.:

    Kumbo: On Easter Sunday morning, April 9, 2023, Cameroon government soldiers carried out an operation in Mbah, a village in Kumbo, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. The mission that was aimed at going after Bui Unity Warriors’ separatist fighters ended with the killing of two civilians. The soldiers also burnt houses, bikes and other property in the village before leaving after the operation.

    Kumba: On April 1, 2023, a mob in Bole Bakundu, in Meme Division of the Southwest region, tortured and killed an orphan boy identified as Yannick Moiti. They accused him of stealing a phone, but after killing the boy, they discovered that he did not steal the phone as accused. So far, 24 members of the community have been arrested in line with the killing.

    Ako On April 1, 2023, heavily armed Fulani herdsmen from Nigeria crossed over to Donga Mantung Division in the Nothwest region of Cameroon and abducted 18 persons. On April 2, they again invaded and abducted three others. On April 6, they attacked and abducted several bike riders. So far, they have not demanded ransom and the motive behind their abductions is not known. Regional and local authorities are also clueless about the case.:

    Buea: On Monday, April 10, 2023, in Buea, separatist fighters carried out an attack which was reportedly meant to cause fear and oblige citizens to respect their instituted ghost town operations every Monday. During the operation, the fighters killed one civilian and injured others. They also set four commercial vehicles on fire.

    Bamenda: Separatist fighters in Bamenda have killed a man identified as Ali. They accused and executed him for helping people establish identity cards at the Old Town Police station in Bamenda. He was executed and his remains dumped at Nitop, a neighbourhood in Bamenda. Those who executed him said his work was treasonous. A video of the act was done and shared on social media by those who executed him.

    Balikumbat: On April 15, 2023, 24-year-old Ngedap Gerald, was pulled out of his house in Balikumbat Subdivision, in Ngoketunjia Division of Cameroon's Northwest and executed by armed men, identified by villagers as Ambazonia separatist fighters. Without making known their grievance with the man, the supposed fighters also seized his motorbike before leaving.

    Mayo-Tsanaga: On April 17, 2023, Boko Haram fighters attacked Krawa-Mafa and Zeleved villages in Mayo-Tsanaga Division in Cameroon’s Far North Region. The two villages were attacked simultaneously, and in the process, the fighters burnt over 200 houses, injured several civilians and killed a soldier, and also injured others.

    Mbanga: Police Officers at the Mbanga station in Cameroon’s Littoral region, on April 20, 2023, brutalised a driver and tortured passengers who took videos and photographs of the incident. The Driver of the General Express travel agency reportedly delayed in handing in his car documents and in return, officers deflated the tyres of the bus. A fight later broke out and passengers were arrested for filming the incident. Some victims said they were beaten on the soles of their feet, with a machete and their phones seized. Some sustained severe wounds from the torture.

    Buea: On Sunday, April 30, 2023, the population of Bakeri Town, a community in Buea Subdivision in Cameroon’s Southwest region, caught and executed two men for an alleged attempt to rob a local business in the area. Though law enforcement forces responded to the incident, they failed to help rescue the suspects, and one of them was burnt to death, while another was tortured and later died too. Two other suspects escaped the mob.

    Penda Mboko: On May 1, separatist fighters carried out an attack targeting government forces in Penda Mboko, a community in Cameroon’s Littoral Region. During the attack, the separatist killed three soldiers, but they also killed a civilian in the process. They later released a video on social media, claiming responsibility for the act.

    Mamu: On May 1, 2023, Cameroon government forces carried out a raid in Mamu, a village in Fako Division, targeting a separatist commander known as General Sadam, and his fighters. During the operation, the separatist commander was killed, but soldiers also killed and injured several civilians along, as the operation was carried out in an open place with considerable civilian presence. Some civilians were also injured. Some were taken to the Buea regional hospital for treatment. Six persons died during the military operation.

    Wainamah: On May 2, 2023, separatist fighters operating in Bui Division of Cameroon’s Northwest region under a group codenamed M23, with help from other groups attacked a military convoy moving from Babessi in Ngohkentunjia Division, into Bui Division. The convoy was reportedly grounded for over an hour, and in frustration, the soldiers resorted to burning houses in the village of Wainamah. Video images from the incident showed houses in flames set by government forces.

    Kumbo: On May 5, 2023, separatist fighters and government soldiers started a gunfight around Kumbo’s main market, Mbveh in Cameroon’s Northwest region. In the course of the gunfight, two civilians were killed. One of them was a car washer around the area. The other victim was identified as Emmanuel from Roberta, a community in Kumbo. Social media images equally showed houses thorn through by fired RPGs.

    Jakiri: At about 4 am on May 5, 2023, Cameroon government troops carried out a mission reportedly meant to capture or kill some separatist elements suspected to have been taking refuge in Sop, a village in Jakiri Sub-division. Sources familiar with the mission said soldiers failed to get the separatists. The soldiers then proceeded to burn some houses in the village. Images showed charred remains of homes and stored foods.

    Bamenda: On the night of May 7, 2023, armed men killed a journalist, Anye Nde Nsoh. He was shot and killed in a snack bar at Che Street in Bamenda, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. Before his death, Anye was serving as the Northwest Bureau Chief of The Advocate Newspaper. Separatist fighters took responsibility for the killing, claiming that it was a case of mistaken identity.

    Nkih On May 11, 2023, Cameroon government soldiers were engaged in a fierce gunfight with Ambazonia separatist fighters of the Bui Warriors unit in Nkih, a village in Oku Subdivision in the Northwest region. Government soldiers who allegedly lost several men in the fight, later went on a rampage against the Nkih community. Over 33 houses were burnt down and a civilian was killed.:

    Tubah On May 18, 2023, Anglophone separatist fighters operating in Big Babanki in Tubah subdivision in the Northwest region of Cameroon, violently suppressed a women’s protest against exorbitant war levies imposed on households by separatist fighters. The fighters opened fire on the women, wounding many in the process. They later abducted the women and are holding them hostage in one of their camps for protesting against them.:

    Ndop The SDO of Ngokentunjia Division in Cameroon’s Northwest region dispatched a commercial motorcycle rider, known as Mboli Edward, with a consignment of medals to deliver in Babessi Subdivision to be handed to recipients on National Day, May 20, 2023. Separatist fighters intercepted the bike rider and captured him alive. The made a video of the man alive, and then proceeded to execute him.:

    Tubah On May 26, Cameroon government forces carried out a mission that was reportedly aimed at targeting and possibly arresting separatist fighters accused of abducting over 30 women in Big Babanki, a village in Tubah Subdivision, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. The mission failed, and soldiers rather went on to burn some five houses, and loot some shops in the village of Big Babanki.:

    Boyo: The remains of a farmer, identified as Francis Munang were on Monday, June 19, 2023, discovered in Belo. Locals said he was arrested by the Cameroon military forces from his farm in Baingo and taken into detention. Church members who reportedly left to identify him at Brigade instead met his dead body along the way. He is said to have been executed by soldiers who arrested him.

    Tubah At least six persons have been executed in Big Babanki in Tubah subdivision by government soldiers. Locals said the victims were arrested by soldiers who accused them of having links with separatists. The accused were arrested and days later, their remains were founded maimed and dumped in the village. The victims included a community leader, two popular bike riders, and a kingmaker among others.:

    Belo: On Sunday June 18, Cameroon soldiers arrested a young man in Belo Sub-division. Locals identified him as Terrence from Sho village. On Monday June 19, the soldiers executed him at Mbingo, at about 8pm. His remains were abandoned by the soldiers at Mbingo after the execution.

    Tubah On Monday June 19, soldiers stationed in Big Babanki, In Cameroon’s Northwest region executed a popular driver known as Pa Joseph Acho. Witnesses say after buying garri from a shop, he was called by soldiers on patrol, who asked him to go after questioning. As he turned his back to leave, he was shot in the back. His remains were abandoned there by the soldiers.:

    Ako Fulani herdsmen believed to have crossed over from Nigeria on June 20, 2023, kidnapped scores of men and young people from the village of Buku in Ako Subdivision, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. One of the victims, Nafemu Amos Chumbe was killed while soldiers succeeded to rescue two of the several victims. Others are still being held.:

    Idenau On Friday, June 23, 2023, separatist fighters kidnapped several CDC plantation workers and children from their Rechtfuss and Scipio camps in Idenau in the Southwest region. BIR soldiers are said to have been dispatched for a rescue operation. So far, only four of the kidnapped were later released by the fighters because they were sick and could not walk the long distance with others.:

    Muyuka On Saturday, June 24, 2023, Cameroonian soldiers surrounded a house in Muyuyka in the Southwest region and killed five men who were in the house. The unarmed men were killed in an execution style. At least one was butchered with an axe. No official reason has been given for the extra-judicial executions. Houses were also burnt down by the soldiers.:

    Yaounde: Manjong Henry, a car loader at Nso Boys travel agency was picked up from Biyem-Assi neighbourhood in Yaoundé by Gendarmerie officers on June 6, 2023. He was accused of communicating with separatists about transporting an explosive device to Yaoundé. After searching all received parcels, no explosive device was seen. He was tortured for weeks and one of his eyes was destroyed. He was later released on June 23, 2023, with torture marks all over his body.

    Bamenda: On June 26, 2023, some inmates at the Bamenda Central Prison in the Northwest region of Cameroon were poisoned with food brought to the facility. A prison guard reportedly brought in the food and handed it to an inmate who shared it with other detainees. Six detainees died due to the poisoning and four others were rushed to hospital.

    Mbonge: Some two locals in Mbonge Subdivision of Cameroon’s Southwest region were on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, killed by separatist fighters. The victims, Obie Christopher and Mukete Theodore were taken from their community in Kombone by separatist fighters under the command of Beseka Belget, self-styled General Black Bat. They were executed and their remains were dumped in the mud at Boa Bakundu where they had been taken to.

    Belo: Mrs Ngochia, a Queen Mother of Menjang Fondom was on July 5, 2023, killed when she was burnt alive at the Mejang Palace in Belo Subdivision in Cameroon’s Northwest Region. She was killed by state defence forces who also burnt the palace to ashes. Her killing was a result of a raid in the village, carried out by government troops.

    Benakuma: Ambazonia fighters operating in Essimbi, a village in Benakuma Subdivision in Cameroon’s Northwest Region killed a man identified as Karana Patrick. The victim was summoned by the fighters to answer questions about his alleged collaboration with government troops. Unfortunately, he was killed and his remains were dumped over a bridge near River Menchum.

    Ndop: Several workers carrying out construction work at Government Bilingual High School, Ndop, in Cameroon’s Northwest region were on July 12, 2023, kidnapped by separatist fighters operating in Ngokentundjia. They were constructing the science laboratory of the school, sponsored by the Northwest Regional Assembly, in an area where separatist fighters have been clamping down on school activities.

    Mbonge: On July 13, 2023, launched an operation to capture a separatist fighter, self-styled General Lucifer operating in Mbonge Subdivision, in the Southwest region. During the mission, the soldiers killed a separatist fighter best known as Commander Yong Money, but they proceeded to also kill his girlfriend. They also burnt a house in the village.

    Ndu: A public transport driver was on July 11, 2023, fatally shot in Ndu, when separatist fighters opened fire on the car he was using to transport travellers to Nkambe, headquarters of Donga Mantung Division in Cameroon’s Northwest region. The attack on vehicles is said to be a means to enforce their blockade on Nkambe for not respecting separatist-instituted ghost town days.

    Santa On Friday, July 14, 2023, the Baba II residence of late Ni John Fru Ndi, Chairman of Cameroon’s Social Democratic Front party, who recently died and is to be buried on July 29, was set on fire. Locals have blamed separatist fighters for the act, as separatist leaders have been carrying out campaigns to frustrate the burial of the main opposition leader in his native Baba II village.:

    Bamenda: Government soldiers operating in Bamenda stormed the neighbourhood of Abangoh on July 15, 2023, and targeted a building inhabited by some youngsters. Neighbours said soldiers opened fire on the youths and killed five of them, and that no reason was advanced for the extra-judicial killings.

    Bamenda: On July 16, 2023, a group of armed men dressed in military attire drove into Nacho Junction in Bamenda, Northwest regional capital, and shot 10 persons dead. Bullet wounds were found on his body, and a chain was also attached to one of his legs. Locals blame separatist fighters for his killing, saying the victim had been labelled as a ‘traitor’ by fighters

    Bamenda: On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, an explosive device suspected to have been planted by separatist fighters in Bamenda Old Town neighbourhood killed a man identified as Michel. He was killed by the explosive which he is said to have picked up and taken home to stockpile and sell, thinking it was iron waste dumped by locals. Another locally made explosive was also detonated beside the residence of the late opposition leader, Ni John Fru Ndi on that day.

    Kikaikom: On July 28, 2023, two civilians were killed by government forces when soldiers raided the village of Kikaikom, in Bui Subdivision. They were killed in Rooh, a neighbourhood in Kikaikom. One of the victims was an elderly person, and the other was the wife of a traditional doctor. She was killed by soldiers who missed to capture her husband.

    Jakiri: On August 1, 2023, a military convoy driving into Bui, through Jakiri Subdivision, and shooting sporadically, killed a 15-year-old at Mile 55, in Nkar, a village in Jakiri subdivision. At Sop Hill, another civilian was shot, allegedly at close range by the very military convoy. He is in critical condition.

Instead of arresting the accused, soldiers executed him and then took off from the village.

    Akwaya: Kekukesim, a village in Akwaya Subdivision in the Southwest region of Cameroon, was on August 12, 2023, invaded by two armed groups after villagers refused to pay levies imposed on them by the groups. The armed groups killed at least four persons, and several others are still reported missing. Most houses in the village were burnt down during the attack, forcing villagers to flee to Nigeria and Mamfe.

    Kumbo: A commercial bike rider in Squares, a neighbourhood in Kumbo was on August 23, 2023, shot and later executed by soldiers on patrol. The victim came to Kumbo from Ndu, as an IDP seeking refuge. His bike was burnt beside his remains by the government soldiers.

    Kumba: On September 1, 2023, members of Cameroon’s elite force, the Rapid Intervention Battalion raided the Fiango neighbourhood in Kumba, amid talks of an impending lockdown meant to delay government-instituted school reopening day. In the process, the soldiers killed and dumped the body of a young man in the community. Locals claimed that the victim was not a separatist as claimed by soldiers who executed him.

    Boyo: Two primary school teachers, Fonjang Eric Denis, and Ndim John Budji were on September 2, 2023, killed after they attended a meeting aimed at planning for the 2023/2024 school year. They were killed by an armed group in Belo, the administrative headquarters of Boyo Division, in Cameroon’s Northwest region.

    Kumba: On September 4, 2023, a teenage girl, identified as Ajeck Hilda was shot and killed when Government forces and separatist fighters engaged in a gun battle at Mile 1, in Kumba, a residential area. A bullet from the crossfire hit Ajeck who was in their home, a plank structure, and killed her. She was a student at Government High School, Kake.

    Muyuka: On September 6, 2023, Cameroon government soldiers during an operation in Yoke, a community in Muyuka Subdivision shot and killed a nursing mother. Witnesses said the sudden appearance of soldiers in the community scared the locals, who started running and the soldiers opened fire, killing the nursing mother in the process.

    Buea: On September 7, 2023, an armed group operating in Buea attacked to enforce a two-week lockdown aimed at delaying school resumption by two weeks. The armed men killed three persons and burnt three taxis for violating their instituted lockdown.     Limbe: On the night of September 8, 2023, someone on a bike, threw a device in in front of a popular bar, called Soccer City in Limbe. The device exploded, killing one person and injuring about five others. Though many blamed separatist fighters, none of the separatist groups have claimed responsibility for the act.

    Adamaoua: The Governor of Adamaoua, Kildadi Taguike Boukar caused the arrest and detention of Bertrand Ayissi, a l’oeil du Sahel journalist for publishing an investigative story on human trafficking. The Administrator who had summoned the journalist to appear before his office on September 11, 2023, claimed that the article published by the journalist was meant to disturb public order.

Locals say she was taken from her home in Baingo by the fighters who accused her of selling food and drinks to Cameroon government soldiers. She was executed and her body was dumped in a public place.

    Zhoa: On September 19, 2023, suspected separatist fighters operating in Zhoa, a town in Menchum Division in the Northwest region, attacked and set some school structures on fire. Some shops were also burnt and the armed men molested a woman they mistook to be one of the teachers of one of the attacked schools.

    Ekondo-titi On the night of September 17, 2023, a group of armed men attacked PAMOL Lobe Estate Camps I and VI. In the process, they killed four persons. Separatist fighters have been blamed for the attack because they had, in a video warning, promised to do it, just days before the incident.:

    Nwa: Armed men said to be Fulani herders attacked locals in the village of Gom, in Nwa subdivision of the Northwest region on September 18, 2023. In the process, they killed 42-year-old Chunte Denis, and severely injured his wife, 36-year-old Bertha.

    Batibo: On September 25, armed men, suspected to be separatist fighters set Government High School Batibo on fire. The armed men reportedly burnt the government school as retaliation for the Senior Divisional Officer moving around and shutting community schools, which had been authorised by separatists to function.

    Kembong: A nonstate armed group operating in Kembong, Manyu in Cameroon’s Southwest region attacked Catholic School Kembong on September 26, 2023. During the attack, they shot a priest and a teacher. They also abducted some community leaders.

    Bamenda: On September 26, 2023, a police officer of the Mobile Intervention Wing shot a woman, identified as Sheilla Praise at her shop in Bamenda. The incident happened in the Hospital Roundabout neighbourhood. The officer was reportedly resting at the victim’s shop, before later threatening and then shooting her in the leg.

    Mezam: On September 25, 2023, inhabitants of Alegue in Mezam Division, in the Northwest region of Cameroon were attacked by armed youths, reportedly from Nkwen. During the attack, they burnt and destroyed several houses, leaving several people homeless. The attacked village has been disputed over, by indigenes of Nkwen and Bambilli in Tubah Subdivision.

    Kumbo: A mentally ill civilian was executed by government soldiers on a mission in Kikaikom, a village in Kumbo, Bui Division, in Cameroon’s Northwest region, on October 4, 2023. The soldiers were allegedly on a mission to hunt down separatist fighters. They executed the mentally ill man, because he could not move as ordered.

    Guzang: On October 4, 2023, an Ambazonian separatist faction, known as the ADF publicly executed two men, identified as Hansel Ndi, a prince of Guzang, and Cletus Njohgo a local trader. The two were accused of spying for government forces in the Northwest region and were publicly executed as a way of deterring others.

    Mamfe: On Friday, October 6, 2023, suspected separatist fighters operating along the Ekok-Mamfe highway, shot and killed a transporter. The driver who was transporting drinks was shot at, and killed, for refusing to stop when signalled to do so, at the separatist checkpoint.

    Fundong: Gunmen operating in Ngwah Atondum, a village in Fundong Subdivision in Cameroon’s Northwest region, on March 17, 2023, executed a traditional herbalist. The victim has been identified as Yuh Leonard. No reason was given for the act.

    Bamenda: Mbontie Venetius, the Quarter Head of Nibung, a community in mile 4 Nkwen, in Bamenda III, was on October 22, 2023, shot and killed by suspected separatist fighters. The armed men did not give a motive for the killing.

    Lebialem: On Sunday, October 29, 2023, government soldiers opened fire on suspected separatist fighters in Malengha-Bachati in Wabane, Lebialem Division, in Cameroon’s Southwest region. The soldiers ignored the presence of civilians in the vicinity, and in the process of going after the suspected separatist fighters, they shot and killed two civilians.

    Mamfe: On November 06, 2023, a group of armed men attacked Egbekaw, a village in Mamfe, in Manyu Division of the Southwest region. During the attack, the armed group killed 30 persons. They injured many others and also burnt down about 20 houses. Locals have blamed separatist fighters for the attack.

    Babanki: On the night of October 31, 2023, suspected separatist fighters encircled the Palace of Big Babanki, shooting for a long time. The Fon says 9 persons with connections to the palace were abducted, and that two were later killed in captivity. Others are still held. The Fon who escaped, had been a wanted person by fighters who targeted him after he called for a military outpost to be created in the village.

    Benakuma: On November 8, 2023, armed men released video footage showing the principal of Government High School, Benakuma, Tem Gerald, in captivity, in the Northwest region. The Principal was kidnapped on October 18, 2023, while on his way to resume duty at the school, after calls for teachers to go to schools, that are increasingly becoming risky. In the clip, the victim pleads with administrators and the elite of the area to negotiate and secure his release, to free him from the misery.

    Kumbo: On November 11, 2023, government soldiers in Kumbo shot and killed a woman, identified as a female guard at the Banso Baptist Hospital, BBH. She was shot on her way back from work. The incident happened beside the Kumbo Cathedral, in Squares' neighbourhood.

    Maroua: A Canal 2 International reporter, Alioum Aminou, was on November 13, arrested by police after he was tricked into coming to collect an invitation for media coverage of an event. When the reporter arrived at the location, he was rather arrested by plain-clothed officers. Cameroon’s Journalist Trade Union said the arrest was in connection with the publication of a news article.

    Talkomari: On November 12, 2023, Boko Haram fighters killed two individuals in the localities of Talkomari and Gangawa. The victims, 38-year-old Ousmane and 60-year-old Madi Sali were slit in their throats by the assailants.

    Bagam On November 16, 2023, Cameroonian armed forces used live ammunition on locals in Bagam, a community in the West region. The security forces shot and killed at least one protester and injured several others, who were protesting against an alleged imposition of a traditional ruler on the community by the administration.:

    Kumbo: On November 17, 2023, government soldiers drove into Sqaures, the centre of Kumbo town, and opened indiscriminate fire on locals who were there. Two people, one identified as Shey Charles and another yet-to-be-identified man were killed immediately. Several others sustained injuries, and most were rushed to the Banso Baptist Hospital for treatment.

    Bamenyam: On November 21, 2023, gunmen suspected to be Anglophone separatist fighters attacked Bamenyam in Cameroon’s West region, killing over 9 persons, and wounding others. Some shops and a cargo vehicle were burnt, and some persons were also reportedly abducted by the gunmen.

    Babadjou: An altercation between two civilians and law enforcement officers on November 22, 2023, led to three deaths. Witnesses said a fight over a 500 frs CFA bribe demanded by officers at the Babadjou-Wabane checkpoint, led to the molestation of one of the civilians, Tangang Innocent, who after being brutally beaten, fought back, seizing an officers knife and stabbing him to death. His friend, Wakam Guy who was not involved in the fight was then killed by colleagues of the officer, even after he pleaded for his life.

    Balighashu: Passi Christopher Dobah, a Vice Principal of GBHS Mbeunkong, and Deputy Mayor of Mayor of Balikumbat was on November 24, 2023, killed and his mortal remains dropped in his native Balighashu village by separatist fighters. He was abducted from a funeral ground two weeks earlier, before he was later killed and his body dumped.

    Jakiri On November 23, 2023, the remains of Yufenyuy Austin a Vice Principal of GBHS Kumbo in Cameroon’s Northwest region, were deposited at Nkar, a village in Jakiri Subdivision. The Vice Principal termed a blackleg by separatist fighters is said to have been abducted by the fighters who also bragged of having extracted information from the victim.:

    Bamenda: 15-year-old Nfi Louisa was on November 24 shot and killed by gunmen, suspected to be separatist fighters who came to abduct her father. One of the gunmen is said to have fired his gun in an attempt to scare off family members who were pleading against the abduction of Louisa’s father. One of the bullets struck and killed the teenager.

    Bamenda: On the night of November 25, 2023, separatist fighters attacked Big G Snack Bar in Bamenda, where Nigerian movie star, Sylvester Madu was making a spotlight outing. The fighters were targeting the movie star for coming to shoot a movie in Bamenda against their warning. During the attack, at least five persons were killed and many others wounded.

    Menchum: On December 12, 2023, heavily armed men, suspected to be separatist fighters attacked Government Technical High School Esu, in Menchum Division, in Cameroon’s Northwest region. During the attack, they abducted two teachers and 15 students but later released all the students. They also set the school on fire before leaving.

    Ndu: Zembwe Gabriel, a Dunga Mantung Divisional Delegate staff in the Ministry of Secondary Education was shot and killed at Ntaba Hill in Donga Mantung on December 12, 2023. His killing has been blamed on separatist fighters.

    Kumba: A prominent human rights lawyer, Barrister Atoh Walter Tchemi was on December 22, 2023, physically assaulted by police officers at Mulang Street in Kumba, Southwest Region of Cameroon. The lawyer was brutalised because he questioned why his client was arrested without a warrant. He too was forcefully whisked into the police pickup truck and taken to the station before was later released.

    Bamenda: On Christmas day, a locally made explosive was detonated at T-Junction, a neighbourhood in Bamenda, the regional capital of Cameroon’s Northwest region. The explosive destroyed three shops, amongst them a dress shop, a fruit shop and another, whose contents were all destroyed. Separatist fighters were blamed as they had banned all outdoor Christmas activities, saying it fell on a traditional Monday ghost town day.
